Corfu/Kerkyra

Corfu/Kerkyra, the capital city of the island, is justifiably regarded as one of the most beautiful cities in Greece and is recognised by UNESCO as a World Heritage Site. Take a look for yourself.

The Fortresses

The imposing fortress walls originate from old Venetian times. Most of the buildings within the fortress walls, for example, the Agios Georgios built around 1830 as a garrison church are witness to British rule. The ``New Fortress`` in the west offers impressive views across the old city.

St. Spiridon

The majestic church, adorned in the style of the Ionian School of Art during the 18th and 19th Centuries, houses the relics of the Patron Saints of Corfu.

Esplanada

Originally a parade-ground, the Esplanada was successfully designed by the French in the style of the Rue Rivoli in Paris and is a much-loved meeting place and setting for a range of diverse events. A Neo-Classical palace is located to the North.

The Old City

The old city with its labyrinth of winding alleyways, dreamy piazzas and the elegant shopping mile ranges to the West of the Esplanada. Don’t miss the vibrant, typically Southern market.

The Island Vido

Vido

The island of Vido has glorious bathing beaches and a rich variety of flora and fauna and can be reached by ferry within about 10 minutes.

Pearl of the South

Kavos provides the perfect starting point for exploring the Southern region of Corfu. Experience the natural origins of rural life in the villages, explore the impressively contrasting hilly and rocky landscapes, soak up the stunning diversity of the beaches and be enchanted by the fairytale palace so loved by Sissi - empress of the hearts.

Hlomos

The picturesque village nestles against the magnificent hilly landscape in the Southern region of the island. The village church, looming high above the beaches of Corfu treats you to a magnificent, sweeping panoramic view. Combine your visit with a couple of hours of sun-bathing on Issos Beach followed by dinner in one of Boukari’s fish taverns situated right by the ocean.

Achillion

Sissi, the empress Elisabeth from Austria-Hungary, was deeply impressed when she saw the Villa Braila rising high above the East coast of Corfu for the first time. She transformed the site into a palace: the Achillion, named after the ancient Greek hero Achilles. After 1891, she visited frequently. Emperor Wilhelm II purchased the estate in 1907 and spent nearly every spring there until 1914.

The beautiful palace grounds house many statues purchased by Sissi during a trip to Italy. Enjoy the stunning view from the highest terrace.

The Archaeological Museum

The Archaeological Museum with the tomb of Menekrates
To the South of the old fortress, one can view the findings of Corfu’s archaeological excavations, including prehistoric digs, graves, a coin collection and the Gorgo-temple gable with the famous Medusa gorgon.

The Church of Saints Jason and Sosipatres

Jason and Sosipatres

The Church of Saints Jason and Sosipatres, built around 1000, is one of the last of the preserved Byzantine churches on the Ionian Island. It is named after two disciples of the Apostle Paul.

Villa Mon Repos

Mon Repos

The idyllic villa houses the Museum for the history of the ancient Paleopolis. The ruins of a Tempel of Hera are located in the extensive, in part wild and uncultivated, park.
